About The Area

Scarborough has often been referred to as "The World's Best Kept Secret". There is no doubt that Scarborough Beach is one of the best beaches in Australia located close to a major capital city.

For several years now development has been stagnated while the local council and residents discussed the best way for development to proceed. The council to their credit has come up with a compromise between high density high rise and medium density medium height, which should keep all stake holders happy.

If you combine an area that is close to a major capital city and on one of the best beaches in the world, in currently one of the most dynamic economies in the world and the area is underdeveloped and where the local and state governments are keen to promote tourism and commit funds to the area, then you are on a winner. This is the case in Scarborough right at this moment in time.

Two amendments to the area under District Planning Scheme no 2, IE, amendment 457 & 458 will transform the area into a modern tourism precinct. Amendment 457 has been approved and some construction is now underway. Amendment 458 is now out for public comment.

In a nutshell amendments 457 & 458 are the result of a process which started in 1999 to revitalize the beachfront area. The stated aim is "to enhance Scarborough's role as the heart of the Sunset Coast by fostering the area's traditions, its natural attractions and unique lifestyle, whilst welcoming everyone all year round.

Full details of the amendments can be obtained from the local authority IE, The City Of Sttirling, www.stirling.wa.gov.au It is beyond this document to go into specific detail, however the end result is intended to be a vibrant coastal tourism precinct with quality residential and holiday accommodation with facilities such as al fresco cafes, restaurants, retail outlets and a range of other services.

Scarborough and the surrounding suburbs are places for today and tomorrow and the smart money with an eye for future capital growth could do a lot worse than buying property in the area.
